Visual Arts - Willow
Caroline Lowe
I have been a member of Arts Connection for some years now and have been involved in numerous art projects within the community. After gaining a chainsaw certificate (with funding help from Arts Connection) I found myself participating in the International Sculpture Symposium 2005 at Lake Vyrnwy. This proved to be a most valuable experience for me and I created my first piece of work with a chainsaw.
I work with all ages and abilities to create work with natural materials and also recycled industrial scrapstore materials. I have just purchased 2.5 acres of land where I grow my different coloured willow for my work.
I am open to suggestions if anyone has any good ideas that they wish to try out on my land or use as a venue. I have 2 yurts which make good mobile work/ display spaces. I most often find myself working with willow and have coracle making demonstrations at Albert Dock, Liverpool and various other willow weaving ideas for The National Trust. In contrast, I have been making U.V. large scale decorations, usually natural themes, e.g. fish, flowers, backdrops and insects. These go on display at large functions and work best under U.V. lights.
