Film Maker
Ruth Carter
I have a BA Hons Fine Art from Sheffield Hallam University. Throughout my degree I specialised in film making and went on to work as a freelance first assistant director and script consultant within the independent short film sector.
I have undertaken professional training in: Screenwriting, genre theory, script editing , location sound recording and post production sound and arts practice with young offenders.
I have produced and directed music documentaries and promos for musicians and arts organisations/events and have a number of short screenplays and two feature length screenplays in development.
My work in community arts has involved:
- Tuition in screenwriting for ‘Lights, Camera, Action’, a group of mixed ability adults with special needs. This resulted in a devised script which was filmed in 2000.
- Screenwriting and production mentor on ‘Maid in Wales’ a youth project run by Powys Youth Service and Arts Connection. The film has subsequently been screened at the arts cinema in Shrewsbury and the ICA in London as part of the London Film Festival in 2005
- Joint project leader on ‘Have We Got Views For You’ a youth project funded by The Chance lottery scheme and run by Powys Youth Service and Arts Connection. This project was set up for young people at risk and will result in a short film where the young people have interviewed their peers and teachers on topics around school life.
I am available to help set up and run projects in film making for young people and community groups and am very keen on developing collaborative projects with practitioners in other art forms, especially music, dance and photography.
Within my own practice I will be continuing to write and seek out funding opportunities to direct my own scripts alongside continuing my freelance work in short film production.
