powys youth music project

The Powys Youth Music Project has been running for 9 years and enables young people to access to musical equipment and professional musicians to create and perform music. It gives young people the opportunity to explore instruments for the first time or for those who already play the opportunity to develop their existing skills.

At the end of the workshops the groups have the opportunity to record what they have put together. Some go onto to form bands and continue making music.

This year saw a number of successful projects. Tommy Mills worked with Dafydd Llwyd to record a song in welsh that won the band competition in the National Urdd, which they will also be performing on ’Take a Bow’ in December. The Walkmen, a young band from Llanfyllin got the opportunity to record their song which then they used to make a music video with the help of Powys Youth Service.
