Celebrating Children's Creativity 2008

The Celebrating Children's Creativity project celebrated ten years of working in North Powys Schools this year. We worked with 20 primary schools across North Powys providing around 1,800 participant places in a range of artistic mediums.

Some of the projects this year have included making cane and tissue sculptures to create some amazing 3D insects and animals at Llanerfyl with Hilary Roberts. Trefnanney School had fun collaborating together to make a dragon out of copper with Stan Jankowski to display in their classroom. Llangedwyn School learnt all about making pictures and landscapes using felt with Hilary Roberts. Berriew re-told myths and legends through collaged pictures with Ingrid Maugham. Hilary Roberts visited Pennant and made a wonderful textile hanging that won first place at the Urdd, she also visited Meifod where they learnt all about clay and how to make their very own pots. Guilsfield made all kinds of scenes by making backdrops and characters from mudroc with Hilary Roberts. Ysgol Erfyrnwy made their own enamelled jewellery with Graham Roberts and children at Banw with the help of Stan Jankowski all contributed towards a clock that is on display at the school.

Owing to the success of the project we have managed to secure additional funding from Powys County Council’s, Community Focused Schools initiative allowing us to offer participatory arts projects in all primary schools across North Powys for 2008 -2009.
