Powys Youth Music Project 2008

The Powys Youth Music Project has been running for ten years and enables young people to access musical equipment and professional musicians to create their very own song. The project gives young people the opportunity to either explore an instrument for the first time or if they already play to develop their existing skills. It gives them the chance to work as part of a team and to collaborate in creating something together which they can either perform for a concert or have recorded.

This year we supported Dafydd Llwyd once again with Tommy Mills helping them write a song in Welsh and Tony Skeggs recorded it. They won for the second year running, the band competition at the National Urdd. Roxane Smith worked with a group of young girls from Machynlleth to produce a 3 track CD. Mark Burnett went to Welshpool Youth Centre to show them how to use decks and create music digitally. Other groups have gone on to form bands and performed their first gigs, such as the young people Llanfair Caereinion.
