Celebrating Children's Creativity 2009
Our Celebrating Children’s Creativity project has been running for over ten years and works to put professional artists into primary schools across North Powys.
This year was very successful thanks to partnership working with Powys County Council Community Focused Schools Officer. We managed to work with 44 primary schools, which is around 87% of the schools in North Powys, providing approximately 7,860 participation places in a range of artistic mediums.
A number of schools took part in Forest School with Patrick Harrison and had the opportunity to create environmental artworks in their local wood. Other projects ranged from drama workshops with Penri Roberts, learning to animate in 2D and 3D with Graham Roberts, a variety of 2D and 3D visual arts with Ingrid Maugham, metal work to make clocks, dragons and more with Stan Jankowski, willow weaving with Caroline Lowe, storytelling around Welsh myths and other tales with Sharon Calder, textile hangings and other visual arts mediums with Hilary Roberts, learning about felt and making pictures with Edna Griffiths, ceramics with Vikki Reynolds and singing with Gloria Griffiths. A highlight was a photography project with Cordelia Weedon which happened at the same time as the visiting Ugandan teachers to Llanfyllin and Llanfechain primary schools, the project produced a portfolio of photographs and statements entitled “The Way We Live” which was shared with children in Uganda in the hope of creating a working partnership. We were also lucky to having visiting artist, Mal Webb, from Australia who visited Llanfyllin and Llanfechain to deliver a music and beat boxing workshop which delighted both the pupils and teachers.
