Powys Youth Music Project 2010

The Powys Youth Music Project has been running for over 10 years and enables young people from across North Powys to access musical equipment and professional musicians to create their own songs. We run four sessions or equivalent in each Statutory Youth Centre in North Powys. It involves both young people who have never played an instrument before and those who already play and are looking to develop their skills. The project allows the group to learn together and share their skills to create a song which they usually go on to either record or perform live in a variety of settings.

This year we supported a number of bands including a young band from Llanfyllin who won the chance to take part in the workshops after performing at Mickstock (Llanfyllin High School Battle of the Bands competition). They worked with Tony Skeggs and Pete Beresford to develop their song writing skills and recorded a song. In Newtown we supported a number of beginners who worked well together to produce songs. Llanidloes were supported by Tommy Mills and Laurance Sharp and they put together a fantastic song which was also recorded. Welshpool also had fun learning how to DJ and create digital music with Bradley Carpenter.
