Welshpool Video Project. In October and November of 2006 10 young people from Welshpool Youth Centre took part in a video project led by Ruth Carter and Tony Wainwright. They began with the theme of bullying, and from this they created a short film, ‘Xtreme Parklife’. Mark Burnett provided a digital music workshop so the film had an original sound score.

Welshpool Urban Arts Project. During spring half term 2007 young people from Welshpool Youth Centre took part in digital music and graffiti workshops. Mark Burnett and Pablo Spaull bought along decks and variety of other digital music making equipment which fully engaged the young people involved. The Graffiti workshops introduced the young people to designing, creating, cutting out stencils and using spray paint in layers to create a montage of images on boards. Sally Duckers provided consultation to listen to the views and opinions of the young people which was funded by Communities First.

Syrcas Circus

Syrcas Circus came to Llanfyllin over the first week of Easter, for the second year running, after the great success of last years event.

The emphasis of the project was for participants to put together their own show with the full support of a professional team. THe project involved a week of intensive workshops based on the history and stories from local people of the y Dolydd workhouse.  The 53 participants learned about what life was like in a 19th century workhouse and the conditions children their own age would have been confronted with. Integrated into this was the theme of dreams and escaping into a colourful and fantastical world to escape the harsh realities of workhouse life.

Prior to the performance on the last day of workshops the troupe participated in a small parade through Llanfyllin showing off all the skills they had learnt over the week.

The final performance combined live performance, music, lights and sound sound. THe audience, of at least 100 people, were awed by the skills demonstrated by the children, young people and adults involved.

The children, young people and adults who attended developed an impressive array of circus and performance skills under the expert guidance of James Carpenter and his wonderful team and Dux the Llanfyllin Youth Worker. All those involved in the project felt they had received a lot form taking part in the workshops, which was reflected in our core participants who showed up to every workshop.

The project was funded by the Clore Duffield Foundation.

Llanfyllin Art Weekend

Llanfyllin Arts Weekend which happened as part of the Powys Arts Month Ingredient X happened from the 18-19 August. The rain seemed to dampen attendance but those who did attend enjoyed visual arts and metal workshops which people could take away with them. On display to view and buy were peg-loom weaving, textiles, glass work (from Mirage Glass, based in Llangedwyn Mill), photographs, paintings and furniture made from recycled materials. The exhibition upstairs consisted of paintings and photographs from Ingrid Maugham, Cordelia Weedon, Jude Howell's, Martin Lenton and Brian Earp.

Much of the work created in schools for our Celebration of Children's Creativity project has been exhibited in each school for parents and governors.
